Back to School Jamboree with food, entertainment, and music, in co-sponsored by CASA and SGA for Hump Wednesday
Description: To raise awareness about the new Faces of Manhood Initiative and to familiarize students with expected programming we hosted the Faces of Manhood Back to School Jamboree. This event was scheduled during Hump Wednesday in association with the Student Government Association on September 7, 2011.

Facing Manhood: Expressions of Masculinities
Description: Hosted a panel titled: Facing Manhood: Expressions of Masculinities. Panelists included advisory board members Rev. Dr. Horace Griffin, Dr. David Wall Rice, Dr. Denise Donnelly, Mr. Cleo Manago, and president of Safe Space the student lead gay-straight alliance, Mr. Daniel Edwards. Dr. Michael Hodge served as moderator and Mr. Robert Peterson assisted with the question and answer period.

Partnered with Mellon Foundation’s Engaged Diversity Student Program
Description: Robert Peterson serves as the Advisor for the Mellon Foundation’s Engaged Diversity Fellows. The Engaged Diversity Fellows is a group of four students funded by The Mellon Foundation. Engaged Diversity is a consortium of institutions including Dillard University, Rhodes College, Southwestern University and Huston-Tillotson University.

Developed a Critical Thinking Leaders Training Program
Description: In an effort to prepare our student leaders with the skill-set to engage in difficult dialogues and facilitate learning regarding issues of masculinities, the Faces of Manhood Initiative has established an ambassador peer-to peer student leadership program known as the Critical Thinking Leaders (CTL).

Conducted Campus Residential Life Directors’ Training on Masculinities and Sexuality in a residential setting with the Office of Housing and Residential Life.
Description: Conducted a training session on the issues of masculinities, sexualities and how to deal with them in a residential setting. We were able to train 10 Residential Directors as well as the Assistant Dean of Housing and Residential Life. As a result, the initiative was able to provide all 10 RDs with the skills needed to engage in difficult dialogues and pass this information on to the more than 50 student Resident Assistants.

Presentation to Bonner Scholar Freshman Orientation
Description: Robert Peterson facilitated a discussion forum on masculinities, manhood, and college life with 15 incoming freshman as part of the Bonner and Adams Scholars Freshman Orientation. The Morehouse College Bonner Office of Community Service's primary purpose is to perpetuate a culture of volunteer service on campus.

Conducted Denim Day Dialogues on Men Stopping Violence against Women in partnership with the Wright Group, the Public Health Sciences Institute, and Department of Health and Human Services Women’s Department of Health.

Activity: Established a Taboo Topics board
Description: In an effort to facilitate ongoing conversations about unmentionable subject matters The Faces of Manhood Initiative has created a Taboo Topics Board. The board is placed in a central location in Wheeler Hall (one of the major classroom buildings servicing nearly all of the student body) where students have the opportunity to provide comments or remarks to a topic “anonymously”.

Conducted a Faculty, Administrator and Staff Seminar Training Series on Masculinities and Sexuality on March 26, 2011 from 9-5pm.
Description: In fulfillment of one of the initiative’s goals to infuse issues of masculinities, sex, sexuality, and sexual expression into existing course curriculum, we publicized a call out for a Faculty, Administrator, and Staff (FAS) Seminar Series and Faculty Release Time Grants. The FAS Seminar Series was held on Saturday March 26, 2011.

Host a stage play of “Through the Night” starring Obie Award Winner Daniel Beaty
Description: One of the most exciting and promising events scheduled is the performance of a one man stage play “Through the Night” starring Obie Award Winner Daniel Beaty. All contractual agreements and events have been scheduled, signed, and approved.

The Advisory Board discussed and provided comments and discussion points to President Franklin and the Board of Trustees.
Description: The Faces of Manhood Initiative advisory board was requested to undertake study, discussion, and provide information to the College Board of Trustees and President Robert Franklin on the question of renting chapel space to alumni and the general public for same gender marriage ceremonies that are not currently sanctioned by local law and custom. A written report was given to the President on July 15, 20111. Presentations to the Board of Trustees in anticipated during the fall meeting in November.

Presentation to Hopps Scholars Freshman Orientation
Description: Robert Peterson facilitated a discussion forum on masculinities, HIV and college life with 20 incoming freshman as part of the Hopps Scholars Freshman Orientation. The major goal of the Hopps Scholars program is to increase by two-fold the number of Morehouse students pursuing graduate degrees in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics by the year 2010.

Hosted Dating and Relationship Series with the Office of Student Life and the Sports & Journalism Program.
Description: The Faces of Manhood Initiative was able to partner with the Office of Student Life and the Sports & Journalism Program to sponsor a “Dating and Relationship Chat Series”. The series includes panelists from varying stages in dating and relationship categories such as never married, divorced, married, and currently dating.

Partnered with D.E.E.P. to host the “Phallus Chronicles”
Description: We have partnered with a student organization to discuss the sexualization of the black male body. This collaboration will result in the production of the “Phallus Chronicles” modeled after the Vagina Monologues. The production includes poetry, art, dance, comedy and drama that draw attention to the black male body, the sexualization of the black male, as well as a discussion on the cultural implications sex, misogyny, heterosexism, and homophobia.
